Stormwater Quality

In 1987 the Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) established a Vision: Clean Water, Green Environment and a Growing Community. This vision reflects MSD’s commitment to build and operate quality wastewater and storm water facilities for our community. One of the greatest challenges facing MSD is the balance of maintaining clean water and a green environment with the needs of a growing community. The ever increasing population, the development of land, and the impacts these have on the environment, has necessitated MSD putting this Vision Statement into action.

To get a better understanding of the water quality within Jefferson County, MSD introduced a Stream Monitoring Program in 1988. Water quality information gathered from each of the area streams is used to determine the effectiveness of MSD’s sanitary sewer expansion programs and drainage projects, as well as provide MSD with the understanding of what future measures are necessary to ensure water quality.

MSD's intent is to provide you with an understanding of the complex water quality issues. MSD believes that strong partnerships and public participation are needed to tackle these tough issues.

We look forward to working with you in our continuing effort to improve the quality of water in Jefferson County streams.
